Active investing is clearly a strategy requiring both timely information and proper trade timing.  Often the best short term investment returns are achieved in small cap stocks - however this requires having a thorough analysis of both company information and trading patterns of the company’s stock.  Many investors are unsuccessful not because they don’t invest in good companies, but because they invest in good companies at the wrong time.  Canadian Online Investor is designed to provide timely information on such companies.

Each issue includes the following sections:

" Market Overview"

A brief overview of the performance of the Canadian and U.S. markets, and the top financial stories influencing the market each day.

" Market Report "

Key statistics on the performance of the major North American stock indexes, commodities, currencies, interest rates, as well as market breadth, volume leaders, and top percentage gainers and losers on all Canadian stock exchanges and the CDN are included in this section.

" Market Movers"

This section covers small-cap companies which traded unusually high volume and / or experienced a substantial change in price during the day or over the course of the last few market sessions. A brief description of recent corporate developments or other factors which could be considered responsible for the unusual trading activity in a particular company is provided.

The information presented in this section is intended to make investors aware of the companies that are presently attracting the attention of market players. The companies appearing in this section are not necessarily appropriate candidates for investment, but may be of interest to daytraders and investors.

" Companies to Watch "

This section is designed to assist active investors in identifying potential timely investment opportunities including:

  • bottom fishing opportunities
  • companies whose stocks have established an identifiable trading pattern based on price and volume.
  • companies in the early stages of growth and business development which may have specific technology or a market niche.

The “Companies to Watch” section features an average of four different companies in each issue.  At any one time, the publication focuses on a core group of 30 to 50 stocks which will be regularly updated. Regular commentary on a small group of stocks is designed so that investors become familiar with the companies, the nature of their business, and the trading patterns of their stocks.

The following sections appear periodically in The Canadian OnLine Investor:

" Breaking News "

This section is intended to inform active investors of significant corporate developments which have been recently disclosed.  The reporting of significant technological breakthroughs, strategic alliances, contracts, and financial results which are substantially below or above expectations, are examples of corporate announcements that are usually selected for inclusion in this section.

" Company Spotlight "

Once per week, this section will provide a detailed profile on either an emerging high growth company, or a company with emerging technology that may not have yet established a track record of revenue and earnings growth. The aim of this section is to identify emerging high-growth, small-cap Canadian stocks long before the general investment community, brokers, and other analysts become aware of them.

" Trading Tips "

This section outlines key facts and strategies that are intended to improve the overall knowledge and sophistication, and ultimately, market success of active investors.  About once per month, an in-depth article covering one particular aspect of the stock market or the investment decision making process is presented to educate investors and aid them in making better informed investment decisions.

The cost of a subscription to Canadian Online Investor should not only be considered beneficial but essential for the serious investor.  The "less than a dollar day" cost can be considered very cheap given the quality of the information provided.
